WELCOME TO BRIGHTON ELECTRIC
We are a high-end recording, mixing and rehearsal studio in Brighton. Established in 1999 with £700 and a lot of ambition, the studios are the life’s work of MD James Stringfellow. We occupy the former head office of Brighton and Hove Tramways Corporation, built in 1897. In those days, passengers would buy their tram tickets from what is now our reception and then head down to the pier in their stripy swimmers.
We have sympathetically updated this beautiful building into a warm and welcoming studio complex. It now houses a world class recording studio, lounge and bar area, over 17 studio rooms including piano rooms, writing rooms, large rehearsal spaces and live recording rooms. Originally the studios became the creative home of many artists including Foals, Bat for Lashes, The Maccabees and Blood Red Shoes, who wrote and rehearsed their first records here. Today, we have four premises and see many more artists from all over the world pass through our doors.
Recent clients include Florence Welch, Passenger, Nick Cave, John Cale and The Cure.
Five minutes’ walk from the recording studio is Brighton Workshop, a purpose-built, mixing and mastering room.
Then there’s the ‘Retreat’,a place for writing and recording, near the sea, set in three acres of gardens. We also have a pro-audio rentals company offering everything from tour bus splitters to Neve consoles.
